Vent: $800 lift kit install quote made me check my own garage height

Every forum post I see swears by 4-post lifts for home garages, but I looked at my 8-foot ceiling in my Portland house and realized a 4-post needs 12 feet minimum. Found that stat on a BendPak spec sheet, and nobody ever mentions clearance requirements in these build threads. Am I the only one stuck with a low ceiling?

Wait hold up. 12 feet minimum for a 4-post? I had no idea either. I was actually looking at BendPak's mid-rise scissor lift because my garage ceiling is literally 7 foot 6 in spots, and even that spec sheet had me second guessing things. Everyone just posts pics of their sweet setups without mentioning the actual clearance numbers, it's insane how easy that is to overlook.

Oh come on, "12 feet minimum" is such an overblown number people throw around to sound like experts. I have a 4-post in my garage with a 9 foot ceiling and it works fine for my daily driver sedan. You're not stacking cars up to the moon, you're just lifting enough to get underneath for oil changes and brake jobs. The BendPak mid-rise you're looking at is perfect for 7.5 foot ceilings by the way, don't let the spec sheet scare you off because it's listing the "max capacity" clearance for trucks. People love to post those glamour shots with their Corvettes hovering at chest height, but most of us just need a few feet of working room, not a full-on NBA court.
