Rant: everyone swears by epoxy floors but my $200 rubber mats work way better

After a year of dealing with cracks in my garage epoxy from dropping a socket set, I swapped to those heavy-duty stall mats from Tractor Supply and they've held up perfectly through 3 Minnesota winters. Has anyone else found rubber to be way more practical than all that fancy floor coating?

You dropped a socket set and it cracked the epoxy?" That's exactly what I'm talking about. People act like epoxy is some miracle floor coating but the reality is it's hard and brittle and just can't take real abuse like rubber can. I did the same thing with my pole barn floor, got those Tractor Supply stall mats and even dropped a whole engine block on one once and it just bounced. Plus the rubber is way nicer on your knees when you're crawling around under a car or working on something low to the ground. The only downside I've noticed is they can trap moisture underneath if you don't put them on a slightly sloped floor, but that's easy to deal with.

Ha! Yeah man, I've seen those epoxy floors crack from just dropping a wrench. People spend all that money thinking they're getting something indestructible and then one slip and it's all chipped up. I bet that engine block would've left a crater in the epoxy, but on rubber it's just like "thud" and done. The moisture thing is real though, I had a buddy who didn't slope his floor at all and had to pull his mats up after a year cause they were growing mold underneath. But hey, a little planning beats a cracked floor every time lol.
