Buddy told me my garage lighting was making his eyes hurt, so I swapped out the LED strips for diffused panels
I had this big shop light setup in my garage with bare LED strips running the length of the ceiling. Thought it was great until my buddy came over to help with a brake job on his Mustang and said it felt like staring into the sun. Said it was giving him a headache after 20 minutes. So I pulled all of them down and swapped for four 4-foot diffused LED panels from Home Depot, cost me about 160 bucks total. Now the light is way softer and spreads out nice across the whole workbench area instead of just blasting one spot. Honestly I didn't realize how harsh the old setup was until I actually sat in the garage with the new ones. Has anyone else had to redo their lighting after someone called it out?

Bro "staring into the sun" is the perfect way to describe bare LED strips, I made the same mistake in my workshop and wondered why I kept getting headaches.

Damn, @grace_fox3 nailed it with that "staring into the sun" thing. But I gotta gently push back on the diffused panels price you mentioned - those Home Depot 4-footers are usually closer to 200 these days, unless you caught a sale or got the cheaper ones without the better optics. I paid 180 for three of the Lithonia brand ones last year and thought that was a deal. Your swap sounds smart though, the diffused light makes a huge difference for eye strain, especially working under a car.
