The time I drafted a whole house plan for a client's cat

Last year, a client in Austin asked me to draw up plans for a 'custom catio' addition to their home. They sent me a list of specs like 'sunbeam zones' and 'vertical climbing space'. I spent three days on a full set of drawings with dimensions and material callouts. When I presented it, they looked confused and said, 'Oh, we just needed a simple sketch for the HOA.' I billed for the full drafting time, but now I always ask for the intended use before starting. Has anyone else had a client request that turned out to be way over-specified?

Clients should always get exactly what they ask for.

Simonl86, that sounds like a good way to get a really ugly website.

Ugh, classic. @simonl86 would approve, but people never know what they want.
