Oh man, I used to just eyeball the scale and hope for the best. Then I wasted a whole afternoon on a brick pattern that looked like a solid wall when printed. Now I always test print a small section first, it's the only way to be sure.

Test prints are just a waste of time and filament. I've been modeling for years and my eye for scale is spot on now. That brick wall fail sounds like a beginner mistake, not a reason to slow everyone down with extra steps.
