My mentor told me to always dimension from a single origin point... I ignored it on a big set of foundation plans and paid for it.

Oof, that's a hard lesson to learn... I've been there too. Dimensioning from random points on a foundation plan makes everything add up wrong down the line. You get one wall off by a quarter inch and suddenly nothing fits together. The domino effect is real and fixing it eats up so much time.

Tell me about it, my last project grew its own extra wall!

It reminds me of a project where we had a window that just would not line up with the exterior siding. The whole mess started with a tiny mistake in the foundation layout, just like @anna_hill said. We spent two full days trying to make the pieces fit before we traced it back to the original plan. That kind of error really does snowball in the worst way.
