I finally bought a proper drafting lamp for my home setup

I was working on a set of mechanical drawings at home last night and the light from my old desk lamp was making me squint at the fine lines. I spent about $80 on a good quality drafting lamp with a flexible arm and a daylight bulb. It made a huge difference right away, the light is even and I can see every detail without shadows. Has anyone else found a specific piece of gear that made late-night drafting work a lot easier?

Totally agree, good light is basic.

Wait, you were trying to do mechanical drawings with a regular desk lamp? That sounds like a special kind of torture. I can't believe you put up with the squinting and the shadows for that long. A proper lamp is the first thing I would have bought, even before nice pens or paper. That $80 sounds like it was worth every single penny just to save your eyes.

My old lamp made every ruler line look like a ghost, clairem81.
