Hot take: I was putting my dimension lines on the wrong layer for a year

My boss in Cincinnati pulled up a drawing I did six months ago and asked why the floor plan looked so cluttered. He showed me his system where all dims go on a separate, non-plotting layer, and it clicked. How do you guys keep your dimension layers organized?

Honestly that's just how most people learn this stuff, through painful little mistakes. You see it everywhere, from people using the wrong size wire nuts to folks organizing their entire garage around a system that makes no sense. The trick is having someone show you the clean way before the bad habit sets in for good. For layers, I keep a separate one for dimensions that prints in a light gray, and another for all my text notes. It stops that cluttered look dead.
