The $4 garden center bench vs the $80 park bench debate

I was sitting in Phelps Park last week and noticed how many people stop at the cheap metal benches by the path, while the fancy wooden ones near the fountain stay empty. Do we get more joy from something because it's in a better spot, or is the activity itself what matters, and which one do you all find works better for a quick mental reset?

People really do pick the spot over the looks, I've noticed that too. The metal benches are right where the shade hits in the afternoon, and honestly that matters more than some pretty wood when you just need to breathe for five minutes. I've sat on both kinds plenty of times, and the cheap one by the oak tree wins every time for clearing my head.
