My dollar store silicone spatula saved a ruined cake frosting moment

I was at my sister's place last Saturday frosting a birthday cake when I realized I left my good spatula at home. Ran to the Family Dollar down the street, grabbed a $1.25 silicone spatula, and honestly it worked better than my expensive one - no weird smells or melting. Anyone else found kitchen tools there that held up better than expected?

I'm glad you brought up that spatula. I bought a dollar store whisk once thinking it would fall apart after one use, but it's been beating egg whites for two years now. Sometimes cheap tools surprise you before they inevitably snap in half.

I grabbed a dollar store spatula for camping once and it's still going three summers later. No melting on the camp stove, no weird plastic taste in the scrambled eggs. My sister actually stole it for her kitchen because she liked it better than her Williams Sonoma one. Cheap stuff can totally surprise you if you don't treat it like a fancy tool.
