Dollar store sponges vs name brand - night and day difference

I grabbed a 4 pack of those yellow and green scrub sponges for $1.25 at my local 99 Cents Only. Used one last week on my cast iron skillet. After three days the green scrub side was completely shredded and falling apart. My name brand one I bought at Target in December is still holding up fine. Anyone else notice the cheap sponges disintegrate way faster?

Margaret and I had the exact same conversation with my neighbor Dave last month. He bought a 6 pack of dollar store sponges and was so mad when the third one fell apart after scrubbing a baking sheet. I pointed him to the store brand at Walmart that costs like 50 cents more but lasts a month longer. The cheap ones just don't hold up to any real scrubbing at all.

You ever have a friend who swears by the cheap stuff no matter what? My buddy Mark bought those yellow and green sponges from the dollar store, used one on his ceramic frying pan, and within a week the whole thing was just a slimy yellow blob with no scrub left. Then he tried the name brand from the grocery store. That thing lasted him almost two months before he had to toss it. He told me the cheap ones fall apart so fast you end up spending more in the long run anyway. I just nodded and handed him a fresh pack of my own.
