Vent: My bathroom vanity faucet snapped clean off at the base last Thursday. The shutoff valves were totally seized.
Happened while I was just turning it on. Old plastic connector gave out. Couldn't turn the water off under the sink, valves were painted over and frozen. Had to run to the main house shutoff in the crawlspace. Ended up replacing the whole supply line setup, cost about $45 for new braided lines and quarter-turn valves. Took me 4 hours start to finish. Anyone have a good trick for dealing with those crusty old shutoffs without breaking them?

Had a similar thing happen with my kitchen sink last year. Ended up using a pair of channel locks and a lot of patience, plus some penetrating oil. What kind of oil did you try first?

Actually, channel locks can mess up the fittings. A proper basin wrench is the move for tight spots under the sink. It saves you a ton of trouble.
