Vent: My 1998 Delta shower valve cartridge finally gave up the ghost
It happened on a Tuesday morning, right in the middle of my shower. The handle just spun freely and the water wouldn't shut off, so I had to use the main house shutoff. I found the exact replacement part online, but the old one was so corroded it took me almost two hours to get it out with a special puller tool. Has anyone else had to deal with a really stuck cartridge in an old house?

I had the same issue with my 1995 Moen. A little heat from a hairdryer on the valve body helped break the corrosion free.

Man, I feel this. Two hours on a single valve is brutal but sometimes that's just how it goes. I spent almost that long on a bathroom sink cartridge a few years back and my knuckles were raw from the cramped space. People don't realize how much patience those old Moen parts demand once they've been sitting for decades. The hairdryer trick is smart though, I'll have to remember that one.

Two hours seems like a lot for a little piece of brass. Was it really that stuck, or did you just not want to admit defeat?
