Used to glue PVC with just primer and cement until a pipe burst in my basement

I had a joint fail in my laundry room after 2 years because I didn't clean the fitting or let the primer dry enough first. A plumber buddy told me he always wipes the pipe with acetone first and waits 30 seconds after primer before the cement. How many of you actually follow the glue manufacturer's steps to the letter?

Guilty as charged lol, used to think I was fine just slapping the primer and cement on until a joint gave out on a cold morning. Now I hit everything with cleaner first and actually time the primer dry time like a madman. Manufacturer steps feel annoying but they probably wrote them for a reason after enough basements got flooded.

Wait, you actually time the primer dry time? Like with a stopwatch or something? That's wild to me lol. @skyler_kim I gotta respect the dedication though, that cold morning joint failure sounds like a nightmare I never want to deal with.

Right? It's crazy how much difference 30 seconds makes. I had a joint pop in my garage last winter and now I'm a total believer in following the steps exactly. Primer, wait, then cement - learned my lesson the hard way too.
