My neighbor watched me spend a whole Saturday building a tiny door for my cat and just said 'you know they sell those, right'.

I mean, I built it from scrap plywood and an old cabinet hinge, but his face when I explained it needed a specific 8-inch clearance for Mr. Whiskers was priceless, so has anyone else gone way too custom for a pet project?

What's the point of having a pet if you can't build them weird stuff?

Three years I spent building a tiny medieval castle for my cat, complete with a drawbridge that actually lifts. She used it twice. Now she sleeps in the cardboard box it came in. I don't know if that's a win or a cry for help from my bank account.

My friend's dog has a hand-stitched fleece bed with his name embroidered on it, and I'm the one who took a weekend sewing class to make it.
