I was cutting a 45-degree miter on some baseboard in my living room and the saw blade caught, sending a piece flying across the room.

After it chipped my window frame, I calmed down, re-checked the fence alignment, and finished the cut with a fresh blade, but has anyone else had a piece just... launch like that?

Watched a scrap piece shoot clear across my garage once.

Oh yeah, that'll wake you up. What kind of saw were you using? A miter saw can really throw stuff if the wood pinches the blade. Good call on checking the fence and changing the blade, that's usually the fix. It happens to everyone once in a while, just gotta respect the tool.

Ever think about how the wood itself might be to blame? Sometimes a board has internal stress from how it dried, and cutting it releases that tension all at once. The wood can twist or pinch the blade in a split second, no matter how good your setup is. It's not just about the tool, it's about the material fighting back.
