Walked into a Halloween pop-up shop downtown and noticed their fog machine was using a cheap hair dryer element

I saw the guts of their setup sitting behind a curtain and realized they just rigged a hair dryer heating coil into a PVC pipe with a pump so how come nobody on here talks about using thrift store hair dryers as a base for a budget build instead of buying new heating elements.

Hair dryers pull way too many amps for what they put out and you're risking tripping breakers or melting that PVC. Most thrift store ones have worn out thermal fuses anyway so you're gambling with fire. Spend the $15 on a proper fog machine inline heater from Amazon and save yourself the headache of burning down your apartment.

Learned that one the hard way (melted a heater hose in ten minutes).
