The day my homemade fog machine almost caught my shed on fire

I was all about using a cheap oil-based recipe from a YouTube video, but last week the heating element got too hot and melted the plastic tubing. Spent 4 hours cleaning black gunk off my workbench. Anyone else switch to a water-based mix after a close call like that?

Yeah I melted a whole extension cord that way back in 2018 and my neighbor's dog wouldn't stop barking at the smoke. Water-based mixes are way safer and honestly the fog lasts longer too if you get the ratio right.

A 12-gauge extension cord I had plugged into a cheap timer basically turned into a molten puddle during a Halloween show back in 2016. The smell was so bad my roommate thought something died in the walls. Your point about fog longevity is what really sold me though, I always figured oil-based would hang around longer but I was dead wrong.
