Talking to a cabinet maker changed how I look at plywood grades

He told me he's been using the same cheap birch ply from a local supplier for 15 years because the glue holds up better than the big box stuff. Made me wonder if I've been overthinking which wood to use on a simple bookshelf project, has anyone else found a hidden gem supplier that just works?

Found a guy selling "weird plywood" out of his garage once. Hashtag never buying big box again... until I realized it was just a really crooked shelf.

Wait, are you telling me I've been wasting money on premium plywood this whole time? I found this old dude who runs a lumber yard out of his barn, he sells this Baltic birch that's not even labeled right but the layers are so tight you can't see any gaps. I built a workbench with it two years ago and it's still rock solid, no warping or anything. Makes me wonder why I ever bothered with the fancy stuff from the home stores.
