Was super skeptical about braided fleece toys lasting more than 5 minutes...

My golden retriever destroys anything with a squeaker in under an hour, so when my friend Jess talked me into trying a braided fleece tug toy pattern, I figured it'd be in shreds by dinner time. Made one out of three old t-shirts last Tuesday, gave it to him, and somehow it's still mostly intact after a full week. He chews on it constantly but the braids just... hold together? The trick seems to be cutting the strips wide enough (I did 3 inches) and really pulling each knot tight. Has anyone else had luck with this material or did I just get a weirdly calm week?

Did you knot between each strip too or just at the ends?

I usually just did the ends and it held up fine for me.

Hold your breath before you declare victory. My lab mix is a textile terrorist and the only braided fleece toy that survived him was one I literally soaked in bitter apple spray before handing over. But you might be onto something with those wide strips, that extra inch or two of fabric seems to give the braids enough heft to not unravel.
