Stop sewing knots into rope toys - it kills the whole thing

I traded for a braided fleece rope last month that had knots at both ends. My dog chewed through the knot in 10 minutes flat and the whole thing unraveled. Knots create weak points where the tension is worst, especially with fleece. I cut the knots out, melted the ends with a lighter, and that same rope lasted three weeks. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just dealing with over eager chewers?

...and that's why I've got a collection of rope toys that look like they went through a blender. Broke down and bought some of those "indestructible" rubber bones last week, and my little 15 pound terrier mix had the squeaker out in under an hour. Guess I'm the problem, not the toys. I feel like my dog just looks at a knot and thinks "bet I can get through that before my human finishes their coffee." So yeah, totally feel your pain on the knot thing - I've started just tying the ropes in a simple loop now and sewing the ends together with dental floss. Lasts maybe an extra afternoon but at least I feel like a crafty genius for a few minutes.

Oh man, that dental floss trick is genius honestly! My buddy had the exact same problem with his lab mix, spent like $40 on one of those "tough" rubber balls and the dog had chunks of it scattered across the yard in 20 minutes. He started doing the same thing with old t-shirts @fisher.mason, cutting them into strips and braiding them together (super janky looking but hey). Lasted almost a whole weekend before his dog figured out the weak spot.

Ha, that's how it always goes with those "indestructible" toys... seems like the tougher they claim to be, the faster dogs figure them out. It's like the whole world is designed to last just long enough for you to feel good about buying it, then fall apart the second you look away.
