Am I the only one who thinks fleece tugs are way overrated for dogs who actually chew?

I read a study from a canine enrichment blog that said 80% of dogs lose interest in fleece tugs after 3 days because the fabric just doesn't hold up to real play, and after my pup shredded one in 20 minutes I'm starting to think we all need to switch to denim or denim blends.

Fleece has zero structural integrity once a dog's back teeth hit it. Those fibers separate and turn into a stringy mess that can actually cause gut blockages if pieces get swallowed. Denim might hold up better but the real pro move is canvas or heavy cotton duck fabric, it's what they used for tug toys in K9 units before all the fancy stuff hit the market.

With all due respect I've used fleece tug toys for years with my own dogs and never had a single issue with fibers coming apart like you're describing. The cheap stuff from craft stores definitely falls apart but quality fleece from places that make dog gear actually holds up pretty well. I think people are way too quick to dismiss it because they bought the wrong kind once. Canvas is definitely tougher but it's also heavier and some dogs don't like the feel of it as much. Fleece has that soft grip that a lot of dogs prefer for tugging.
