PSA: My monitor arm almost took out my ceiling fan last Tuesday

I was adjusting my dual monitor stand to get more space on my desk, and I forgot my ceiling fan was spinning. One of the arms swung up, smacked a blade, and sent a plastic shard flying across the room. Has anyone else nearly wrecked their room layout this way?

Oh man, that sounds like a wild ride. Though I gotta say, ceiling fans usually have a pull chain or a switch to turn them off, so maybe it's on you for forgetting that part. I've done similar stuff where I got so focused on my desk setup I forgot the fan was on, and I've smacked the pull chain before which was annoying enough. Hope the shard didn't hit anything important, that plastic can be sharp when it snaps off.

Man, I feel you but I gotta push back a little here. Sure, the pull chain is there for a reason, but who really thinks about ceiling fans when you're in the middle of a desk setup panic? I've hit those chains by accident before and it's annoying, but a broken plastic shard flying off is a whole other level of bad luck. Did you actually look at the fan after it happened? Like, did the blade crack or was it just a piece of the pull chain that snapped off?
