People keep using monitor arms on hollow core desks
I've seen three posts this week where someone mounted a dual monitor arm to a particle board desk and wondered why it wobbles. If the desk top is hollow or less than 3/4 inch thick, you need a steel reinforcing plate underneath or the clamp will just crush the core. Has anyone else had to deal with a collapsed desk from this?

Particle board desks and monitor arms are a disaster waiting to happen. A steel plate is the bare minimum but even then the desk might just split down the middle eventually. Anyone who says "it'll be fine" hasn't seen the aftermath of a crushed core.

I've mounted dual monitors on cheap particle board for years with zero issues though.
