Heard a guy at Lowe's say he built his whole desk out of stair treads instead of butcher block
I was grabbing some sandpaper and he told me they're already sanded, the same thickness, and cost him $35 each compared to $80 for a butcher block countertop, so now I'm wondering if there's a catch with weight or durability has anyone tried this and had problems with sagging over time?

My neighbor did this exact thing three years ago and his desk still looks like it's gonna collapse any day now... but that's mostly because he used two hairpin legs and called it a day. The stair treads themselves are fine, but they're basically just thick pine so they'll sag if you don't put a center support under them. I mean, $35 is a steal compared to the $200 I spent on my butcher block top, but you get what you pay for with wood that soft.

My buddy did the same thing but tried to glue two stair treads together and it warped overnight.
