Good week turned bad real fast with my monitor arm install

Monday I finally got that $40 single arm mount from Amazon. Looked solid. I spent Tuesday measuring my desk three times before drilling. Wednesday afternoon I got it mounted and my monitor wobbled like crazy. Turns out my desk is just cheap particle board so I had to buy a wood block to reinforce it. Anyone else run into hollow desk problems with monitor arms?

Plywood would've been fine, particle board just crumbles under any load, trust me on that.

yep, my buddy built a whole shelf system out of particle board back in 2018 and it literally started sagging after like two months with just some books on it. he tried to reinforce it with those metal brackets but the material just kept crumbling around the screws. ended up having to tear the whole thing down and start over with plywood which has been solid for years now. funny enough he still has the old particle board pieces in his garage and they're basically just warped dust collectors at this point.
