Wasted $15 on a fancy pen holder that wouldn't even stand up straight on my desk

I bought a cute acrylic pen holder off Etsy but it kept tipping over every time I grabbed a pen, so I ended up just tossing it after a week. Has anyone else had luck making a sturdier one from something like clay or a jar?

My buddy Mike spent $20 on a metal one that still wobbled like crazy. He just glued a magnet to the bottom and now it sticks to his desk perfectly.
