Vent: It took me 3 hours to make a simple pen holder out of clay
I thought I'd whip up a quick cactus-shaped pen holder for my desk. But I spent 3 hours just trying to get the clay to not crack and then it slumped over before baking. Has anyone else had a simple project turn into a whole day thing?

Oh man, the "quick project that turns into hours" trap is real. You said it took 3 hours to make a simple pen holder, but that's not a simple project - clay work is super tricky even when you know what you're doing. The cracking and slumping happens to everyone, I always forget how much clay shrinks and settles. Maybe try a thicker base next time, that helped me when I made a mug that kept caving in on itself.
