Spent two months making a tiny zen garden before I realized I was using cat litter instead of sand.
It wasn't until my coworker asked why my desk smelled like a litter box that I finally caught on, has anyone else grabbed the wrong bag from the garage for a project?

Tbh I read somewhere that some people actually use cat litter on purpose for certain crafts cause it holds shapes well. Still, that's rough man. Honestly the smell must have been wild after two months of it sitting there absorbing moisture and whatever else. Ngl I grabbed a bag of what I thought was potting soil once and it turned out to be cedar mulch for animal bedding. My whole apartment smelled like a hamster cage for weeks. At least yours is a funny story now instead of just a waste of time.

Hang on though, is cedar mulch actually supposed to be for animals? I thought it was just for gardens to keep weeds down. Now I'm second guessing every bag of mulch I've ever bought. That hamster cage smell you mentioned, was it that strong the whole time or just when you watered it? Because I've got a few beds around my house with cedar chips and I always just figured that's what mulch smells like when it gets wet. I'm wondering if I've been living with animal bedding for years and never even knew it.
