Shoutout to the $3 cork coaster from a garage sale that made me ditch my store-bought pen holder

Last month I found a busted old cork coaster at a yard sale in Toledo and after cutting it down with a box knife and hot gluing it into a little tray for paperclips and sticky notes I finally get why people go rustic simple over those plastic organizer cubes.

That whole "busted old cork coaster" bit hit me hard man. I get exactly what you mean about ditching the plastic crap for something rough and simple. I've got a old wooden thread spool I turned into a headphone stand and it feels way better looking at than any of that glossy Amazon stuff. The hot glue and box knife effort makes it yours in a way that store bought stuff never can be. Rustic simple just wins out every time once you try it.

Agree with most of this @gavinhunt, but I gotta gently push back on that "hot glue" part. Hot glue gets brittle fast and picks up dust like crazy. I used it for a few projects and regretted it later. Try wood glue or just a couple small screws if you can. Holds up way longer and doesn't look as messy after a year. Your spool stand sounds cool though. I bet that thing has some real character.
