Bought a $3 cork sheet and it saved my desk from coffee rings

I was at the Dollar Tree last month grabbing random stuff and saw a 12x12 cork sheet for $3. Cut it into a coaster shape with scissors, took maybe 2 minutes. Has anyone else found cheap random stuff that works better than the fancy desk organizers?

Honestly I don't get the hype. Cork soaks up moisture and then stays damp, which is basically asking for mold or at least a funky smell after a few weeks. Meanwhile those $2 ceramic coasters at IKEA actually hold up and you just wipe them off. People act like spending three bucks on a hack is genius but you could've spent zero dollars by just using a paper towel in a pinch. This whole "look what I rigged up from the dollar store" thing is getting old fast.

Ever notice how we all love the idea of saving money but then ignore the long term costs? I've seen so many people go for cheap fixes and end up spending more time and money fixing the mess later.

Paper towel for a coaster? That's wild, @oliver_ward14. I've seen guys at the pub use napkins, but they end up with soggy rings on the table anyway. You're right about cork though, my buddy had a set that went fuzzy with mold in like two weeks (gross). I'd rather just grab a ceramic coaster and be done with it, no fuss.
