Talked to a retired roaster at a garage sale and now I can't unlearn the salt trick

Was picking through old tools at a sale last Saturday and this older guy saw me buying a bag of generic Folgers. He just said "pinch of salt in the grounds before you brew, cuts the bitter without adding anything." Tried it this morning with the same cheap beans I always use. It actually works. Not a game changer but noticeable. Anyone else get coffee advice from strangers that actually held up?

Bull, you're just covering up bad beans with salt, now you can't taste what's actually wrong with the coffee.

Nah, I gotta disagree. Salt just balances flavor, it won't fix beans that are actually burnt or stale.

Covering up bad beans with salt" - @faithg26 just described my entire approach to cooking. Guess I've been making coffee flavored soup this whole time.
