My roommate told me my coffee tasted like a wet sock and he was right
He said it had that bitter, stale flavor from not cleaning the grinder, and I honestly never thought about the oil buildup inside. So I wiped it down with some rice and a brush, brewing the very next cup was night and day difference. Has anyone else had that moment where someone's blunt honesty made you realize you've been messing up a simple step for way too long?

That "bitter stale flavor" part really hit home for me. I had the exact same wake up call with my french press, just never figured the oils could go rancid like that. Scrubbed it with some coarse salt and a paper towel, now my morning coffee actually tastes like coffee again. It's wild how something so small can ruin the whole thing without you even knowing.

The salt trick is smart, Ive done that with my old french press too but people sleep on the mesh filter. @wells.brooke, you gotta take that thing apart sometimes and soak it in vinegar water. Oils hide in the metal mesh and get that bitter film going even when the glass looks clean. I do a deep clean once a month now and my coffee went from drinkable to actually good. Makes you wonder how many bad cups people put up with for years not knowing.
