My aunt June called my coffee "paint water" at dinner last night and she had a point
She's 72 and still uses a percolator on the stove. I was over for Easter and made myself a cup from her fancy beans. She took one sip of my usual grocery store stuff and said that. Made me think about how I've been buying the same $6 bag for 5 years now. She said just a pinch of salt and a dash of cinnamon in the grounds changes everything. Tried it this morning and it actually worked. Anyone else have a older relative who called them out on bad coffee habits?

Oh man your aunt sounds like a legend. My grandma pulled the same thing on me like two years ago when I was visiting and made her a cup from my cheap Folgers can. She took one sip and said "this tastes like water that got yelled at by a coffee bean." Then she showed me her trick with a tiny pinch of salt in the grounds and I swear it cuts the bitterness. I thought she was just being old and weird but now I do it every morning. I even started buying whole beans and grinding them myself because she made me realize how much garbage I was drinking for years. That salt thing is a game changer for sure.

Huh, my neighbor swears by putting eggshells in the filter, says it settles the grounds and makes it smooth as silk...
