I finally stopped using fancy syrups after reading the ingredients list
I was at the grocery store in Portland last week and grabbed a bottle of that vanilla syrup everyone raves about. Turned it over and the first ingredient was high fructose corn syrup, not even real sugar. For $8 a bottle I can just melt some brown sugar in water on the stove and get the same effect without all the junk. Anyone here tried making their own simple syrups with real vanilla extract?

Seems like a lot of effort to save $8.

Seems like a lot of effort to save $8" - says the guy who probably spends 20 minutes comparing prices on two different brands of ketchup. I mean yeah, maybe it is. But some people get a weird high from sticking it to the man over pocket change. I've seen people drive across town to save three bucks on gas and then buy a coffee while they're out. It's basically a hobby at this point, not about the money.
