Found a trick to fix bitter cheap coffee without adding sugar

I kept burning my grocery store grounds with my drip machine and the taste was awful. Then I tried adding a tiny pinch of salt to the filter before brewing, and it smoothed out the bitterness completely. Anyone else use salt or have another no-sugar fix?

Wait, salt in coffee? That sounds crazy but I heard about this from my buddy Dave who's a total coffee snob. He used to gag on his cheap Folgers every morning till his wife tried the salt trick and now he swears by it. Said it doesn't make it taste salty at all, just kills that burnt edge. I might actually try this since I'm too lazy to buy fancy beans and my drip machine is older than my truck.
