Stripped a pedal thread in the middle of a trail last Saturday
Was out on the Blue Loop at Oak Mountain and my left pedal just started wobbling then popped off. Ended up walking 2 miles back to the car with the bike on my shoulder, now I'm looking at a $60 crank replacement because I didn't catch the cross-thread.

Dang, a two mile hike with the bike on your shoulder is brutal. I've had to hoof it out about half a mile once and that was bad enough, I can't imagine doubling that. My first thought is, you're sure the crank is toast? Sometimes you can get away with a helicoil if there's enough meat left in the arm, though on a cheaper crank it might not be worth the trouble. Either way, that's a rotten way to end a ride.
