Shoutout to the guy at the co-op who showed me how to true a wheel with just zip ties

I spent $60 on a truing stand two years ago and it collected dust until I watched him zip tie a marker to the frame and fix a wobble in 15 minutes last Tuesday, has anyone else found a random household item that replaced a specialty tool?

Bro that zip tie truing thing is a game changer. I've got a cheap truing stand too but half the time I just flip the bike upside down and use a zip tie on the fork for quick fixes. It's not perfect but gets the job done way faster than hauling out the stand. I also use a butter knife to lever off cassette lock rings when I can't find the right tool, works in a pinch but scratches everything lmao.

Butter knife on a cassette lock ring, that's a bold move. Hope you've got a spare chain or a good tetanus shot ready.
