Best $12 I ever spent was on a chain checker tool
I kept replacing my chain every 3 months cuz I thought it was stretching, but turns out it was fine. That little Park Tool CC-3.2 saved me like $40 on my last replacement, anyone else ditch the guesswork for one of these?

I gotta push back on the "best $12 I ever spent" part here. I bought one of those chain checkers a few years ago and it actually messed me up because it told me my chain was fine when it was REALLY already worn out. I ended up having to replace my cassette and chainring too because I waited too long based on that tool. Theyre good for a rough idea but Ive seen people say those Park Tool ones can be hit or miss with accuracy. I think measuring with a ruler or just replacing on a schedule is way more reliable honestly.
