Tried using coffee grounds to kill slugs in my raised beds

I sprinkled used coffee grounds around my lettuce after reading it repels slugs, but the next morning I found way more of them than before, like they came for a feast. Did I get bad info or do these things actually attract them instead? Anyone else try this and see the opposite result?

Oh man, you basically rolled out the red carpet for a slug party! Coffee grounds are supposed to be more of a mild irritant than poison (like, they're rough on soft bodies), but apparently the smell just attracts them like a dinner bell. Looks like you accidentally created a 24-hour slug buffet instead of a fortress.

Have you tried putting crushed eggshells around the base instead?
