Stopped fighting my sloped yard and built a tiered garden bed instead... worked better than I thought
My backyard has this annoying slope that's been a pain for years. Water would just run off and nothing would grow right. After three summers of trying different things, I finally built three small raised beds going down the hill like stairs. Total cost was about $60 for lumber and screws. The water now soaks into each bed as it goes down. My tomatoes actually made it past July this year. Has anyone else tried terracing a small slope in their yard?

Honestly this proves once you stop fighting problems and work with them you end up way better off.

Wait, you did this whole thing for only $60? That's insane. I spent almost $200 just on lumber for one single 4x8 bed last year and mine didn't even work half as well as yours sounds like it does. Your stair idea is smart too, I never thought of letting the water just trickle down from one bed to the next. I bet the soil doesn't wash out either since each bed catches the runoff from the one above it. Honestly I'm kind of jealous right now, I've been fighting my own slope with those stupid plastic edging kits that never stay put. Might have to rip those out and copy your idea this weekend.
