Just realized my cheap bird feeder was basically a squirrel buffet after $30 in wasted seed

Picked up a $12 feeder from the hardware store last month, figured it'd be fine. Came home to a fat squirrel munching away like he owned the place, now I'm shopping for a metal one with a weight-activated perch.

Tbh I had the exact same thing happen, only it was one of those fancy tube feeders that was supposed to be squirrel proof. That thing lasted maybe two days before I found a fat gray squirrel hanging upside down from it, just stuffing his face like he won the lottery. Now my backyard looks like a squirrel daycare with four different feeders and I'm pretty sure they're just laughing at me from the trees. Ngl I think I've spent more on bird seed trying to outsmart them than I would have just buying them a damn bag of peanuts.

Omg I feel so called out right now. My neighbor caught me on camera chasing a squirrel across my lawn with a broom last week, and I had to pretend I was just "exercising." The real kicker was when I bought this supposedly indestructible feeder with a weight-sensitive perch, and the squirrel just sat on it and ate while I watched from my kitchen like a total fool. I've got three different feeders now and I swear the squirrels have formed a union and are holding meetings in my oak tree. Pretty sure I'm funding their retirement at this point.
