I finally fixed my wonky fence gate with a $5 part from Ace Hardware
Last weekend in Austin, my gate hinge completely snapped off after that big windstorm we had. The wood was rotted around the old screws so I picked up a heavy-duty T-hinge at Ace Hardware for $4.87. I drilled new pilot holes about 2 inches above the old ones and it's solid now. Has anyone else dealt with rotted fence posts and found a quick fix that holds up?

Did your buddy ever try using those metal fence post repair spikes? My friend Jim had a whole section of rotted posts in his backyard in Tulsa, and he just drove those spikes down into the ground alongside the old posts. Bolted the fence rails right to them and it's been holding for like two years now, even through that nasty ice storm we had.

It's funny how often the simplest fixes turn out to be the most reliable in my experience.
