The upside down cup trap that kept wrecking my wash cycles

I kept finding half cleaned mugs with water pools on top for months. Turns out my roommate was placing all cups right side up on the bottom rack. The water from the spray arm just bounces off the bottom of the cup and never rinses the inside. Last Tuesday I showed him by loading two identical mugs one right side up and one tilted down. The tilted one came out spotless while the other still had coffee stains inside. Has anyone else caught a family member doing this same thing?

Did your roommate argue with you when you showed him the test? Mine got defensive and said "that's how I've always done it.
