My sister swore I was wrecking my dishes by not rinsing them first
She said the food bits would clog the filter and ruin the machine. I tried her way for a month and everything came out with baked-on crud. Switched back to scraping only and letting the dishwasher do the work. Results are way better. Has anyone else had someone give them bad dishwasher advice that backfired?
My friend gave me the exact same speech about pre-rinsing and I just nodded along while scraping my plates like normal. Thirty years of dishwashers and zero filter problems, so either I got lucky or the whole thing is overblown. Sounds like your machine prefers doing its actual job, and the "ruining" part is just some kitchen mythology.
Stick with scraping and let the machine eat. @ellis.victor nailed it - thirty years of not rinsing and no filter problems here either. The whole pre-wash thing just wastes water and makes the dishwasher lazy.
