My mother in law came over and loaded my dishwasher the 'wrong' way

She put all the bowls facing down on the bottom rack and I almost lost it, but honestly everything came out cleaner than my usual method of stacking them sideways. Has anyone else had their family prove their dish loading rules are overrated?

Nah, you had a system that worked for you and she completely ignored it. Just because the dishes came out clean this one time doesn't mean her way is better - she might have just gotten lucky with the load.

You know, I used to be exactly like that - I had a very specific way of loading the dishwasher and got annoyed when anyone did it different. But something similar happened with my daughter last year and it honestly changed my whole view on this. The new way actually worked better and I had to admit I'd been making things harder on myself for no real reason. Sometimes we get so stuck in our habits that we forget there might be better ways out there. So I get why you almost lost it, but maybe give her method a real try for a few loads before you decide.
