Vent: My mother in law visited and pre-rinsed every dish with scalding hot water
She came over last weekend and insisted on rinsing every plate under the hottest tap water for a full 30 seconds before loading the dishwasher. I tried to show her the sensor on the side that figures out if stuff is clean, but she just waved me off saying she's done it for 40 years. She even scrubbed a casserole dish with a brush before putting it in, which basically does the whole job for the machine. I counted - she spent about 8 minutes extra on this ritual while I stood there losing my mind. Has anyone else had someone totally ignore how their dishwasher works and just do their own thing?

Extra rinsing never hurt a dishwasher and actually helps prevent food from baking on during hot cycles.

I've actually been wondering about this because I ran a test last year with my old Bosch. I scraped one load but left the other with leftover sauce and cheese bits. The scraped one came out cleaner on the heated dry cycle, but the dirty dishes had a baked on crust that took serious scrubbing. Does your machine have a filter that catches the food? My old dishwasher had a grinder so I never worried about it, but now I have to manually clean the filter every few weeks. Doesn't that extra rinsing just clog the filter faster with smaller particles?
