The day my sister called me out on pre-rinsing everything

I spent 20 years scrubbing every plate until it was spotless before loading the dishwasher. Last Thanksgiving my sister saw me doing it and said 'you know you're wasting water, right? those new machines handle all that.' I was confused so she pointed to the manual sitting on my counter, the one I never read. Turns out my dishwasher from 2018 has a soil sensor that actually works better when there's some chunks left. Has anyone else had to unlearn dish habits from their parents?

My grandmother taught me to iron EVERYTHING including socks and underwear until my college roommate laughed his ass off. It's wild how we just blindly copy stuff from our parents without ever questioning if it still makes sense.

Grandma was right about not wasting food though, underwear ironing is excessive.
