That one time my aunt caught me pre-rinsing dishes at Thanksgiving

I was at my aunt's house last November helping clean up after Thanksgiving dinner. She saw me scrubbing a plate under the faucet before loading it into her dishwasher and she just stopped and stared at me. She walked over, turned off the water, and said 'you're wasting time and water, the machine does that part.' Then she showed me how she just scrapes the big stuff off and loads it straight in. I felt kind of foolish but also curious, so I tried her method on my own dishes back home. After a month of not pre-rinsing, my dishwasher actually seemed to clean better and I saved a ton of water. Has anyone else had a relative call them out on this and change how you do things?

Didn't it feel weird at first trusting the machine to do all the work?

Started with small stuff. Just let it handle the boring repetitive bits first while I watched over it like a hawk. After a few weeks of zero disasters it felt pretty normal.
