My roommate called me out for pre-rinsing every plate like a maniac

Told me I was wasting water and the dishwasher's sensor works better with some food gunk on there. Tried it cold turkey last week with a crusty lasagna pan and it came out spotless, no clue why I was scrubbing everything for 10 years.

Wait, you seriously just put a crusty lasagna pan straight in the dishwasher and it worked? That's wild, I've been soaking mine for like an hour before loading. I feel your pain though, my mom taught me to pre rinse everything too and I swear it's a hard habit to break. Maybe I'll give it a real shot this week and save myself the elbow grease.

Is it really that crusty though or are you just used to overcomplicating it? My machine handles baked on stuff better than I ever could with a scrub brush and hot water. Soaking for an hour is just wasting water and your time. The pre rinse habit is hard to break, I get it, but modern dishwashers are literally designed to deal with food residue. You gotta trust the machine a little more and let it do the work you paid for.
